People and Pesos is a Social Innovation Initiative. It uses Design Education to connect different worlds within the same country.
Rather than setting out to tackle individual problems, it fosters and facilitates relationships between Design Schools and local Organizations or Businesses to work on Social Innovation.
The shear scale that this approach enables allows us to expand the possibilities to which we can imagine and effect change.
People and Pesos sets out to create a framework and methodology; initially introducing Schools and Organizations to each other through Design Projects, and eventually developing a global network of local Partners.
Design Educators with backgrounds in Design Research and Social innovation have a role as Facilitators, understanding the local context of both the School and Organisation/Business. By realising the differences and similarities between the two worlds they create the Project Briefs and conduct the Workshops.
Organisations are hard at work, all over the world, tackling its most complex problems. Design Thinking breaks down problems into smaller chunks and the Initiative introduces Student Designers, forming their outlooks on society, and their role within it, to these chunks. Project by project – the initiative opens dialogues between isolated worlds. Its vision is to engage a generation of future Design Professionals who involve Social Innovation in their work.
We welcome Design Schools, Partner Organisations/Businesses, Design Educators/Facilitators and Sponsors interested in supporting the Initiative.
